MANILA, Philippines — A senior citizen who was severely hurt after being struck by a Philippine National Railways (PNR) train in Makati City died in the hospital on Thursday afternoon.
Makati City police chief Col. Rogelio Simon confirmed that Macario Ylarde Ebreo, 68, died while undergoing medical treatment in Makati Medical Center at around 1:55 p.m.
A report from Makati police said Ebreo was crossing the railroad tracks at the intersection of Osmeña Highway and Sen. Gil J. Puyat Avenue (Buendia) in Barangay San Antonio when he was sideswiped by the southbound train at around 10:15 a.m.
Police said the brakes of PNR train suddenly malfunctioned which blocked and caused traffic at the west and east lanes of Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue along Osmeña Highway.
Police identified the train conductor as Lavadero Santos. /je
