MANILA, Philippines – Tropical Depression Marilyn is not likely to make landfall but will still affect large portions of the country, the weather bureau said on Thursday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that the trough of “Marilyn” will bring light to moderate and even intermittent heavy rain showers over Luzon (including Metro Manila) Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, the Bangsamoro region, Northern Mindanao and Soccsksargen region.
Pagasa warned residents of the affected areas of possible flashfloods and landslides.
Pagasa likewise advised fishermen that sea travel is risky on the central and eastern seaboards of the Visayas and the northern, eastern and southern seaboards of Mindanao.
As of 10 a.m., “Marilyn” was spotted 1,355 kilometers east of Casiguran, Aurora.
It has maximum sustained winds of up to 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
It is moving north-west at 25 kph.
Pagasa said “Marilyn” may exit PAR by Sunday morning. /gsg
