Inmate inside Bilibid stabs prison guard

Bilibid inmate stabs prison guard

MANILA, Philippines–A prison guard inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) was wounded after an inmate stabbed him inside the NBP premises in Muntinlupa, reports reaching the Department of Justice (DOJ) disclosed on Thursday.

“Investigation indicates that Duty Officer Edgardo Ferrer was stabbed at 8:40 this am by a PDL (Person Deprived of Liberty) suffering from schizophrenia,” Justice Undersecretary and DOJ Spokesperson Markk  Perete said.

“Officer Ferrer sustained superficial stab wound on his lower abdominal and has been given commensurate medical care,” he added.

Justice Undersecretary for Correctional System Deo Marco, on the other hand said that based on the reports provided to him by the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), the suspect has been identified as Wilson Topic, 32, years old and confined at Building  4A-2 of NBP West inside the Maximum Security Compound. He is serving a prison term of reclusion perpetua or up to 40 years imprisonment for rape.

“Based on suspect medical record examination sheet, he was brought and admitted at the Psychiatric Ward, NBP Hospital last July 23, 2019 due to Schizophrenia and was discharged on Sept. 3, 2019,” Marco said quoting a report sent to him by BuCor.

Meanwhile, the Muntinlupa Police said it will coordinate with the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) regarding the incident./jpv
