TACLOBAN CITY –– Classes in several areas in Eastern Visayas were suspended due to heavy rains and strong winds spawned by Tropical Depression “Marilyn.”
In Biliran province, classes had been canceled in the towns of Kawayan, Biliran, Caibiran, Almeria, Culaba, Cabucgayan, and Naval, the provincial capital, since Wednesday.
Only the island town of Maripipi had yet to suspend classes.
In Leyte province, among the towns that suspended classes were Barugo, Alangalang, Capoocan, and Carigara.
The town of Basey in Samar province also suspended classes.
Meanwhile, the city schools division in Tacloban City said 12 public schools were flooded due to heavy rains.
Most of these schools are located in the northern part of Tacloban City where resettlement areas of families who lost their houses due to Supertyphoon “Yolanda” are located.
Nilo Eder of the city schools division said these schools are Sto. Nino Elementary School, North Hill Arbours Integrated School, Villa Sofia Elementary School, St.Francis Village Elementary School, Greendale Residences Integrated School, and Guadalupe Heights Integrated Schools.
Other schools in Tacloban where flooding occurred due to the inclement weather were in Utap Elementary School, Sagkahan Elementary school, V and G School, and Dr. AP Bañez School.
Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez, as of this posting, had yet to issue an order to suspend classes in the city. /lzb
