MANILA, Philippines — Grab Philippines reminded its customers on Wednesday that its car services could only accommodate up to four passengers after one of its drivers was reportedly assaulted due to a dispute about the limit.

“Following the safety standards of car manufacturers having a maximum capacity of 5 passengers for cars including the driver, Grab Cars can only accommodate up to 4 passengers,” Grab Philippines said in a statement.

The ride-hailing firm said one of its drivers was physically assaulted after refusing to accommodate five passengers.

According to Grab, the incident happened at around 6:50 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 9, in Barangay Del Monte, Quezon City.

One of the passengers was a child.

But Grab said in its statement: “Children, regardless of age, shall be counted as one passenger.”

Grab further noted that, in case of an accident, its third-party insurer would only cover “the allowable number of passengers in a car.”

The ride-hailing firm, which also offers a six-seater service, asked its customers to be “mindful and respectful” of its standard policies and to “observe responsible use of the Grab platform to ensure safety and security to each and everyone.”

It said it has extended medical support and legal assistance to its driver, which, it said, intends to file charges against the aggressor.
