LEGAZPI CITY, Albay, Philippines — About 2,000 policemen from Bicol region would be sent to Camarines Sur province to provide security during the annual observance of the feast of Our Lady of Peñafrancia, one of the biggest religious festivals in the country.

Maj. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, spokesperson for the Bicol Police Regional Office, said the deployment would augment the police force of Naga City, the venue of the religious event on Sept. 10 to 22.

She said policemen would ensure the safety of local devotees and visitors and enforce orderliness, traffic management and security measures in critical infrastructures such as churches, shopping malls, transport terminals, including communication and power lines.

A 10-day gun ban would also be imposed on the request of the Naga City government. —Mar S. Arguelles
