150 convicts released under GCTA now with BuCor

MANILA, Philippines — As of Tuesday morning, a total of 150 heinous crime convicts prematurely released under the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) have already come forward and are now in the custody of the Bureau of Correction, (BuCor), Senior Insp. Eusebio del Rosario, chief of the BuCor Public Information Office said.

“Ito na yung nasa custody ng BuCor kaninang umaga pero wala pa dito yung sa Philippine National Police,” said Del Rosario.

[They are the ones now in the custody of the BuCor, but the number does not include those who are still with the Philippine National Police.]

On Monday, the PNP on Monday said it already had in its custody 130 inmates, adding that only 25 have been turned over to the BuCor as travel
arrangements were still being made for the rest to be brought back to the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

The BuCor reiterated its appeal to heinous crime convicts released under the GCTA to surrender and comply with the directive of President Rodrwigo Duterte to give up within 15 days.

“Sa ating mga persons deprived of liberty na ang mga krimeng nagawa ay kabilang sa mga itinuturing na heinous crimes, kasama rin ang mga escapees, habitual delinquents at recidivists na pinalaya sa bisa ng implementasyon ng Republic Act 10592 o ang Good Conduct Time Allowance ay ating hinihikayat muli na magbalik kustodiya ng Bureau of Corrections,” the BuCor said.

The BuCor has set up seven assistance desks to process the return of these inmates in the following places:

  • National Headquarters at the NBP Reservation in Muntinlupa City
  • Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City
  • Davao Prison and Penal Farm in Panabo City, Davao del Norte
  • Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan
  • Leyte Regional Prison in Abuyog, Southern Leyte
  • Sablayan Prison and Penal Farm in Occidental Mindoro
  • San Ramon Prison and Penal Farm in Zamboanga City

“Maaari ding makipag-ugnayan sa pinakamalapit na police station sa inyong lugar upang ma-proseso ang inyong pagbabalik sa BuCor,” the BuCor added.

It said that inmates could also reach the bureau for assistance through telephone numbers 478-3597 (BuCor PIO), 807-2368 and 478-9888 (BuCor Operations Center) and at 850-0117 (Inmate Document Processing Division).
