LUCENA CITY –– A motorcycle rider, who was not wearing a helmet, was killed in a four-vehicle collision along the Maharlika Highway in Candelaria town in Quezon on Monday night, police said.
The collision also left five motorists injured.
A report from the Candelaria police, said Arnel Nañuz Seguinza, 23, with back-rider Johnrick Jetro Agustin, 21, lost control of his 125-cc motorcycle when he overtook a Ford Ranger pick-up and a Hyundai Starex van in one section of the highway in Barangay Mangilag Sur at 9:20 p.m.
This led to the motorcycle colliding head-on with an oncoming Nissan Urvan van driven by Efren Bañas.
The strong impact of the collision led to the wayward motorcycle and van consequently hitting the pick-up driven by Elmer Enriquez.
The van driven by Manuel Santiago subsequently bumped the rear of the pick-up.
Sequinza suffered grave body and head injuries and died on the spot, while Agustin was badly injured and was rushed to the United Candelaria Doctors Hospital.
Four other occupants of the van suffered injuries and were brought to the same hospital.
The drivers of the three other vehicles were unhurt.
Senior Master Sgt. Alnor Tagara, Candelaria police investigator, said both motorcycle riders were not wearing crash helmets.
Wearing crash helmets for riders of two-wheeled motorized vehicles is required under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009. /lzb
