MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) will be creating a road map that would help in providing technical assistance for the transition of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
“We want to help in meeting the objectives of the [Bangsamoro Organic Law] and that is to allow the Bangsamoro to have a meaningful self-governance within the framework of the Constitution and territorial integrity of the country,” Interior Secretary Eduardo Año said in a statement on Tuesday.
DILG’s road map is the next phase for the BARMM’s development after the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) vowed the decommissioning of its combatants and weapons to comply with peace agreements with the government.

Año noted that DILG will assist the interim regional government of BARMM by improving the police forces to maintain peace and order in the Mindanao region.
“The DILG will see to it that we implement what the law mandates, particularly the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), which says that the Philippine National Police shall create a Police Regional Office in BARMM for the primary purpose of law enforcement and maintenance of peace and order,” Año said. /jpv
