MANILA, Philippines – Senate President Vicente Sotto III on Friday bared an alleged “tanim kaso” scheme where inmates set to be freed find out they still have “pending cases”.
“Isa pa, lalabas na, palabas na. Talagang irerelease na siya. E ‘yun daw ‘yung tanim kaso,” Sotto said in an interview on dzMM.
“Sasabihin, hindi ka pwede lumabas. Meron ka pang naka-pending [na kaso].’ E maglalagay ka para mawala ‘yung pending mo dahil wala naman talaga e. May ganon. Talo ‘yung tanim bala. Ito, tanim kaso,” Sotto added.
Sotto made the revelation amid the Senate investigation on the alleged “sale” of the Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) at the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) for convicts seeking early release.
During a Senate hearing Thursday, Yolanda Camelon, wife of an inmate, claimed paying P50,000 to BuCor officials to secure the early release of her partner. /gsg
