Number coding suspended

MANILA, Philippines—Number coding in Metro Manila has been lifted amid an influx of holidaymakers during the Christmas season, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MDMA) said.

Its Twitter page said that MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino has ordered the lifting of the number coding scheme starting 1 p.m. Friday “to facilitate convenience and mobility of travelers in preparation for Christmas Day.”

This, however, doesn’t include the cities of Makati and Las Piñas, it said.

Under the scheme, vehicles with plate numbers ending in 9 and 0 are not allowed on major thoroughfares from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
