5.4 quake jolts Mindoro
MANILA, Philippines—A 5.4 magnitude earthquake struck off Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro at 12:27 p.m. Friday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from the quake that hit 31 kilometers southwest of Mamburao. It had a depth of 26 kilometers.
The tremor was felt at Intensity IV in Calapan City and Puerto Galera in Oriental Mindoro; Paluan in Occidental Mindoro; and Batangas City.
Intensity III was felt in Marinduque and Pasig City and Intensity II in Lucban, Quezon, Pasay City and Quezon City.
The Philippines sits on the Pacific “Ring of Fire” where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activity.
