MANILA, Philippines – Typhoon Liwayway is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) Thursday night, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported.
In its 4 a.m. weather bulletin Thursday, Pagasa said “Liwayway” was last spotted 505 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes as continues to move north at 10 kilometers per hour.
The state weather bureau said “Liwayway” slightly intensified with maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 190 kph.
“Liwayway” is still expected to bring light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains over Batanes and Babuyan Islands.
While “Liwayway” no longer has a direct effect on most parts of the country, it continues to enhance the southwest monsoon, which will bring rain shower in parts of Luzon, particularly over the Ilocos region and Cordillera Administrative Region.
Meanwhile, Pagasa is also monitoring a low-pressure area (LPA) that has entered the PAR and was spotted 915 kilometers east northeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.
The trough or extension of the LPA will bring scattered light to moderate rains, with at times heavy rain showers, over the Caraga region, Northern Mindanao and Davao Region. /gsg
