MANILA, Philippines — Typhoon “Liwayway” continues to move northeast slowly over the Philippine Sea while exiting the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR), the state weather bureau said Wednesday.
In its 11 a.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said “Liwayway” was last spotted at 345 kilometers northeast of Basco, Batanes.
“Liwayway” packed maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of up to 160 kph.
The typhoon is expected to exit the PAR Thursday morning or evening.
Occasional gusty conditions may still be felt in Batanes, The Babuyan Group of Islands, Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Zambales and Bataan due to the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
Pagasa earlier lifted Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal No. 1 over Batanes as “Liwayway” gathered strength while heading out of the PAR. /muf
