Cebu lawyer wounded in ambush

CEBU CITY – A veteran lawyer was ambushed and wounded in a busy street here Monday morning.

Lawyer Inocencio De La Cerna Jr. attended a hearing at the Qimonda IT Center, Cebu City’s temporary courthouse at around 9:15 a.m. and was driving his vehicle along Port Service Road when he was attacked.

Two men on a motorcycle overtook the lawyer’s vehicle and opened fire.

They sped off after the attack.

Chief Master Sergeant Ruth Bongo, investigator of the Waterfront Police Station, said De La Cerna managed to return fire.

The lawyer sustained a gunshot wound to the right arm.

“He sought help from us after the ambush,” Bongo said.

Further investigation is ongoing. /gsg
