MANILA, Philippines — If CIBAC party-list Representative Eddie Villanueva were in Nicanor Faeldon’s shoes, he would have already resigned from his post as Bureau of Corrections chief since the situation is “very clear.”
Villanueva made the statement ahead of a Senate investigation into the implementation of the Good Conduct and Time Allowance law on Monday morning.
“If I were in the position of Commissioner Faeldon, after those mistakes in Customs Bureau plus this one, I should not give much headache to the President,” Villanueva said in an interview with ABS CBN News Channel.
“So as a gentleman, he knows what he should do. I don’t want to prejudge anyone but the situations are very clear,” he added.
Villanueva also believes that Faeldon should already step down from his position and face the Senate in order to explain what happened.
Faeldon was allegedly behind the early release of murderer and rapist Antonio Sanchez from the Bureau of Corrections.
According to Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Sen. Panfilo Lacson, it was Faeldon who signed the release papers of Sanchez last Aug. 20.

Calls for the firing of Faeldon have also been made by some senators following this controversy.
However, the Malacañang remained mum on the said issue revolving around the Bureau of Corrections. /je
