Sinulog e-book ready for free download online

Everything about one of the Philippines’ grandest festival, Sinulog, will be at the tip of one’s finger with “A Guide to Sinulog 2012,” an electronic guidebook launched last week in barangay Pari-an.

Smart Communications Inc. and Cebu-based website MyCebu.ph came up with the Sinulog e- guidebook for use in the iPad, iPhone, Kindle, Android phones and tablets and other tablets, e-readers and smartphones.

“This is part of our efforts to support the DOT and the Cebu local government in the promotion of tourism in Cebu. Through digital and social media, we can showcase our heritage to more people around the world through locally generated content,” said lawyer Maria Jane Paredes, senior manager for Public Affairs Group of Smart.

With the electronic guide book, tourists are spared from carrying heavy books with them, said Marlen Limpag, MyCebu.ph editor.

The guidebook will be sold on Amazon and other online bookstores but can also be downloaded for free at the Mactan Cebu International Airport through quick response or QR code scanning, USB download or e-mail distribution.

Other downloading sites include the Ayala Center Cebu, malls, hotels, restaurants, resorts and the offices of the Sinulog Foundation and Department of Tourism, as well as other tourism establishments in Cebu.

To advise tourists where they can stay during the procession and grand parade, “A Guide to Sinulog 2012” lists establishments along the route. It also contains offline maps of the procession and grand parade routes and a frequently updated online map of the routes that people can view if connected to the Internet.

E-books are convenient to use as they can be read in various devices even without an Internet connection.

“A Guide to Cebu 2012” will be released in January in time for the Sinulog.

An e-book compilation of Sinulog photo contest winning entries of past years will also be produced next year.
