Manila gov’t shuts down bar hiring illegal foreign workers

MANILA, Philippines — The local government of Manila ordered the closure of a bar in Malate, Manila on Thursday afternoon just hours after illegal foreigners working in the establishment were arrested.

Authorities served the revocation order of the Sha Sha KTV Bar along San Andres Street near corner Adriatico Street.

The order states that the bar’s business permit was canceled for violation of City Ordinance No. 8331, specifically, “for their failure to pay Occupational Tax and Occupational Permit Fee and failure to secure Health certificate for its 12 service personnel and nine foreign workers acting as guest relation officers.”

“You are hereby directed to cease and desist from further operating your business effective immediately and upon receipt of this letter, and surrender the original permit granted to you for final cancellation,” the revocation order read.

Earlier, 10 Russian women inside the bar were taken under police custody after police officers found that the foreigners do not have working visas. /jpv
