MANILA, Philippines — The Philippine National Police (PNP) Highway Patrol Group (HPG) will be deploying additional personnel along Edsa to boost its presence and crackdown on crimes such as hijacking and robbery.
Newly-appointed PNP-HPG director Brig. Gen. Eliseo Cruz said the unit will fielding 62 more police officers.
“Nakakita tayo ng mga 62 patrolman and patrolwomen na dito nakaassign sa PNP-HPG headquarters na hindi sila authorized ma-assign dito [sa headquarters]. Ang deployment natin sa highways gaya ng Edsa,” Cruz told reporters in an ambush interview at the PNP-HPG headquarters on Wednesday.
Cruz said the HPG intends to also maximize its deployment in other areas in Metro Manila aside from Edsa.
At present Cruz said the HPG has personnel aboard 20 patrol cars and 36 motorcycles on patrol in Edsa from 5 a.m. to 1 a.m. /muf
