Santa Rosa City gets own legislative district

MANILA, Philippines — Santa Rosa City in the province of Laguna now has its own legislative district.

President Rodrigo Duterte has signed Republic Act No. 11395, which will constitute a new lone legislative district for the first-class city. RA 11395 was signed August 22, but a copy of which was only released by Malacañang on Wednesday.

Currently, Laguna is represented in the House of Representatives through its first, second, third, and fourth districts. The cities of Biñan and Calamba have their respective legislative districts.

The new law will leave San Pedro City as the only remaining part of the Laguna’s first district.

The incumbent congressman for the 1st District of Laguna, Rep. Dan Fernandez, will continue to represent the said district until the new representative of the Lone District of the City of Santa Rosa has been elected.

The changes will commence in the next national and local elections, after the effectivity of the law. /kga
