MANILA, Philippines—President Rodrigo Duterte slammed on Tuesday Iceland for allowing abortion, saying that he is hoping the Nordic island country would “freeze in time.”

Duterte said Iceland, which recently pushed for a United Nations probe into the human rights situation in the Philippines, worries more about the drug pushers who he said cause “social dysfunction” but it allowed the “slaughter” of unborn babies.

“Iceland allows the slaughter of the fetus inside the womb of the mother up to six months. Put*** *** nila,” Duterte said in his speech before agrarian reform beneficiaries.

“Hindi naiintindihan ng mga gag* … Palibhasa itong Iceland wala namang kain ‘yan e puro ice lang. Bobo ang mga put******** ‘yan,” he added.

Abortion in Iceland is legal within 22 weeks of pregnancy with the decision to terminate the pregnancy after the 16th week requiring approval by a committee. But the Icelandic parliament passed a bill last May making the decision to terminate pregnancy available solely in the hands of the pregnant person.

Recounting how he witnessed farmers in Davao City live in poverty with many children, the President again reiterated his support for family planning but he said: “Abortion is out.”

“I will not allow it,” he said.

United Nations Human Rights Council previously adopted an Iceland resolution, which urged the human rights body to investigate an alleged violation of human rights in the Philippines amid the killings in the Duterte administration’s drug war.

This prompted Duterte to seriously consider cutting ties with Iceland.
