Isabela, Basilan suspends classes due to rains

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur –– Isabela City, Basilan Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman has ordered the suspension of classes for elementary and high school levels due to heavy rains and flooding.

Hataman said a weather advisory from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Administration (Pagasa) mentioned that Basilan would have moderate to heavy rains with lightning and strong winds due to thunderstorm.

She added that based on the Pagasa advisory, the local disaster risk reduction and management council recommended the suspension of classes.

Students from 53 elementary schools and 12 secondary schools were advised to stay at home until further notice.
