Metrobank, Toyota give P5 million for ‘Sendong’ victims

The Metrobank Group and Toyota Motors Phils., through their foundations, have allocated a P5-million calamity assistance fund for the victims of Tropical Storm “Sendong.”

The fund will be coursed through the city governments of Iligan, Cagayan de Oro and Dumaguete, and municipal government of  Tanjay, Negros Oriental province. The Philippine Red Cross and the Department of  Health will also receive grant assistance.

“With this donation, we hope that we will be able to assist and somehow alleviate the plight of our fellow Filipinos who were badly affected by Sendong,” said George S.K. Ty, who chairs Metrobank Group, Metrobank Foundation Inc. and Toyota Motors Phils. Foundation.

For more than 30 years, Metrobank Foundation has been giving financial aid to calamity victims in the Philippines and overseas as part of its humanitarian initiatives.

This year, it extended assistance to the victims of Tropical Storm “Pedring” and Typhoon “Quiel” in September. It also partnered with Toyota Motors Phils. in giving a P10-million donation to the Japanese government following the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan in March.
