Laguna advises preemptive evacuations due to ‘Jenny’

SAN PEDRO CITY –– The Laguna provincial government on Tuesday advised local disaster responders to be ready should they need to enforce preemptive evacuations because of Tropical Depression “Jenny.”

The evacuations are for residents in areas prone to flooding and landslides, said Laguna disaster response chief Aldwin Cejo.

Cejo said during a phone interview Tuesday that there were no reported incidents yet although the inclement weather had forced class suspensions in Cavite, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon provinces.

“If you evacuate when the rain is already strong, that’s not preemptive. That’s just response,” he said.

Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Alex Masiglat said the provincial governments of Cavite and Batangas had canceled classes in all levels.

In Quezon, classes were also suspended in Lucena City and Mauban in Northern Quezon. /lzb
