'Jenny' intensifies into tropical storm; Signal No. 2 up in 3 provinces

MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 2 was raised in Isabela, Aurora and Quirino as Typhoon “Jenny” intensified into a tropical storm Tuesday, the state weather bureau said.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) hoisted TCWS No. 1 over Cagayan, Nueva Vizcaya, Apayao, Abra, Kalinga, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Pangasinan, Nueva Ecija, Tarlac, Zambales, Bataan, Pampanga, Bulacan, Metro Manila, Rizal, northern portion of Quezon including Polillo Islands, Cavite, Laguna, Camarines Norte, northeastern portion of Camarines Sur and Catanduanes.

Pagasa added that the tropical storm may make a landfall in Aurora either Tuesday night or early Wednesday.

In its 11 a.m. weatehr forecast, Pagasa said that “Jenny” was last spotted hovering 360 kilometers east of Daet, Camarines Norte.

“Jenny” also packed maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph), and gustiness of up to 80 kph.

Pagasa said the tropical storm was seen moving northwest at 25kph.

The state weather bureau said that intermittent to frequent moderate to heavy rains will be experienced over Bicol Region, Samar Provinces, Quezon, Rizal, Bulacan, Pampanga, Nueva Ecija, Aurora, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, Isabela and Cagayan.

Meanwhile, light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains will affect Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Visayas, and the regions of Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and the Bangsamoro region. /jpv
