MANILA, Philippines — Earthquake victims in Itbayat, Batanes received a fresh batch of relief goods after nearly running low on supplies.

The Philippine Navy’s BRP Pangasinan (PS-31), the Philippine Air Force’s C-295, and commercial vessels transported the relief items to Itbayat, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Thursday.

Two Philippine Coast Guard vessels also brought supplies, tents, and medicines.

The series of deliveries were conducted from August 19 to 21.

BRP Pangasinan brought a total of 795 sacks of family food packs, 312 boxes of relief supplies, 32 sacks of rice, 10 sacks of 50-kg rice, 6 boxes of sardines, 8 boxes of instant noodles, 6 boxes of instant coffee, 30,000 liters of mineral water, and 92 boxes of assorted grocery items.

The C-295 plane flew in 14 boxes of assorted relief goods and 88 sacks of rice. Privately-owned commercial vessels delivered 71 drums of diesel fuel.

Food and other relief goods have been almost running out for the earthquake victims as bad weather prevailed in Batanes, hampering the delivery of supplies.

Nine were killed and almost 50 were injured from the 5.4 and 5.9 magnitude earthquakes that jolted Itbayat last July 27. /kga
