#WalangPasok: Albay suspends classes in all levels as storm brings heavy rain

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines–Classes in all levels–public and private school–in Albay were suspended Thursday morning due to heavy rains spawned by Tropical Storm Ineng.

Albay Governor Al Francis Bichara, Provincial Disaster Risk  Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) chairman, said the suspension of classes is a pre-emptive disaster mitigating measure to protect students from possible flooding and other risks.

Bichara said the suspension order would be lifted once the weather situation normalizes.

The advisory directed all 18 local disaster councils across the province to be on alert and monitor vulnerable areas prone to flash floods and landslides.

The PDRRMC likewise warned villagers living along river channels to take the necessary precautions.

Local fishermen were advised to stay ashore due to rough seas.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s said heavy rain is expected in the Bicol Region, as well as the provinces of Aurora and Quezon due to Ineng.

A gale warning was raised in several provinces –  Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, eastern coast of Albay, eastern coast of Sorsogon, Northern and Eastern Samar, Leyte, Quezon including Polilio Islands, Surigao del Norte, Siargao and Dinagat Islands.
