Man in Lapu hangs self
A 49-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself from a Gmelina tree at the back of his house in barangay Poblacion, Cordova town, off Mactan Island, Cebu.
Geogines Baldres was found by a neighbor at 5:30 a.m. yesterday with a rope tied around his neck and the other end tied to a broken branch.
Police said the branch may have been broken while the man was suspended.
Misunderstanding with his live-in partner may have driven the man to kill himself, said police.
Days before the suicide, Baldres was detained after his live-in partner complained to the police that he was mauled by the man.
Baldres was released after the reglamentary period had elapsed and no charges were filed against him.

The man wrote something on the paper and gave it to his daughter.
The daughter went back to sleep while Baldres went out of the house and was later found dead.
It was later discovered that the piece of paper that the man gave to her daughter was a suicide note.
The note read: “wala koy problema sa akong mga anak, pero naa ko problema sa akong asawa, kamo akong mga anak, pag-amping mo kanunay, pasaylo-a ko ninyo (I don’t have a problem with my children, only with my wife. To my children, take care always, forgive me).”
Police said there was no foul play in the man’s death. /CORRESPONDENTS NORMAN V. MENDOZA AND RHEA RUTH V. ROSELL
