MANILA, Philippines — Those behind a fake, spliced video showing Sen. Leila De Lima allegedly admitting that she was a protector of drug lords are “evil men and women,” the lawmaker said Saturday.
“Mga walang puso at konsensya!” De Lima said in a statement.
[They’re heartless people without a conscience.]
De Lima issued the statement after a video of her allegedly admitting that she was part of the illegal drug trade had made the rounds on social media. However, it was later found that the video was a spliced version of a privilege speech she made in 2016.

“Wala na po ba silang pag-kaabalahan at pagkakitaan kundi ang manira ng dignidad at ng aking pagkatao?” she said.
[Don’t they have other things to do and make money out of other than destroy my dignity and personality?]
De Lima denied that she was a drug lord or a protector of drug lords.
“No fake news or perjured testimonies can ever obliterate the truth about my innocence,” she said.
The oppositionist senator has been detained at the PNP Headquarters since 2017 over drug-related charges.
