2 dead, 1 hurt in motorcycle collision in Northern Samar

CATARMAN, Northern Samar — An election officer and another motorist were killed while another was hurt in a collision of two motorcycles in Pambujan town, Friday night.

Gerald Apelo , 45, an election officer in Mapanas town, was driving a motorcycle, heading to the capital town of Catarman from Mapanas when he figured in an accident with another motorcycle with two riders about 6 p.m.

Patrolman Ramil Pedrigal said Apelo was overtaking a vehicle in front of him when he collided with another motorcycle from the opposite lane.

Both vehicles swerved and crashed into the concrete.

Even if he was wearing a helmet and protective gear, Apelo suffered a broken leg and head injuries.

The driver and his male passenger of the other motorcycle remained unidentified as of Saturday.

The police said the two came from a fiesta celebration at the nearby town of San Roque.

Apelo and the driver of the other motorcycle were brought to the Pambujan Rural Health Unit but were declared dead on arrival by municipal health officer Marie Yongco.

The motorcycle passenger was brought to the Northern Samar Provincial Hospital in Catarman where he remained under observation./lzb
