MANILA, Philippines – Another barangay chairman in Manila was shot dead on Dagupan Extension near Solis Street in Manila on Friday morning
Reports from the Manila Police District said that Barangay 161 Chairperson Alfredo Lansingan was aboard his motorcycle along Dagupan Extension when two unidentified men opened fire.
Lansingan was rushed to the Chinese General Hospital was declared dead on arrival due to bullet wounds on different parts of his body.
Officers from Jose Abad Santos station assured that they are conducting follow-up operations to identify and arrest the suspects, who eyewitnesses said fled towards Caloocan City.
According to acting police commander Lt. Col. Gene Licud, of the Jose Abad Santos station, Lansingan was on board his motorcycle when the still unidentified armed man, who was on another motorcycle, opened fire. They have yet to establish the motive behind the killing.
However, he said that the gunman’s act of shouting Lansingan’s name before firing his gun is also being looked into.
“Sa ngayon hindi pa namin ma-determine (‘yong motive), however, looking into the circumstances, ‘yong bumaril sa kanya tinawag ‘yong pangalan niya. So maaaring ito’y kakilala niya. Hindi ako nagbibigay ng ano pero it appears na gano’n,” Licud told INQUIRER.net.
“So we’re looking, getting all the pieces of evidence and titignan natin kung ano ba ang motibo ng pagkakabaril,” he added.
Manila’s Public Information Office (PIO) also confirmed Lansingan’s death in a tweet.
