MANILA, Philippines— The original creator of “8chan,” the website used as a messaging board by mass shooters, voluntarily met with the director of the Philippine National Police Anti-Cybercrime Group (PNP-ACG), PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde confirmed on Thursday.
Albayalde said Christian Frederick Brennan, who lives in the Philippines, already talked to PNP-ACG director Brig. Gen. Dennis Agustin.
“Yes nakipagusap [siya] in fact he is even willing [to cooperate]. Ang ano kasi diyan na-take-down na yung website immediately after lumabas yung issue na ‘yun that website was already taken down,” Albayalde told reporters on the sidelines of the National Summit on Crime Prevention at the Manila Hotel when asked about updates on PNP-ACG’s efforts to locate the website administrator.
“Pumunta siya at nakipagkita sa director ng ACG. Nung ginamit sa hindi maganda, siya mismo tinakedown na niya,” Albayalde added.
When asked if the investigation is still ongoing, Albayalde said they stopped probing the website as it is already taken down.
“Tapos na wala na yung website sarado na,” Albayalde said.
The gunman who killed 22 people at an El Paso, Texas, Walmart posted a racist anti-Latino “manifesto” in 8chan website just before the mass shooting. /jpv
