LEGAZPI CITY –– Anti-narcotics operatives recovered P162,000 worth of “shabu” (crystal meth) in a surprise inspection at the Albay Provincial Jail in Daraga, Albay on Wednesday morning.
Lt. Col. Rodelon Betita, chief of the Daraga police, said police carried out “Oplan Galugad” jail inspection and recovered 44 sachets of shabu weighing 27 grams in the prison cells in Barangay Tagas around 5 a.m.
He said 21 small sachets of shabu were found under several floor tiles, while 23 sachets were confiscated from two inmates.
Cham Zuniga, warden at the Albay Provincial Jail, said the inmates could have acquired the illegal drugs without passing through the regular visitor’s inspection. /lzb
