The driver of a passenger bus ended up in critical condition at a hospital in Malabon City after a still unidentified man shot him in the head Thursday morning.
Senior Superintendent Cornelio Barrios, Malabon police chief, identified the victim as Renato Quejaro, 47, a resident of Holiday Hills in San Pedro, Laguna. He was taken to Fatima University Medical Center where doctors declared his condition as serious.
“He was driving when suddenly, one of the passengers got up, approached him from behind and shot him twice in the head,” Barrios said.
Quejaro was behind the wheel of a Cher Transport bus plying the Pacita Complex-Edsa-Navotas route at the time he was shot.
His assailant, described as between 40 and 45 years old, was dressed in a brown jacket, a pair of short pants and slippers. He immediately got off the bus after he shot Quejaro by mingling with panicky passengers who rushed toward the exit when they heard gunfire.
The police said that despite his injuries, the victim managed to drive toward the nearest hospital.
According to Nelson Mata, the bus conductor, the gunman flagged down the bus in Cubao, Quezon City, and told him that his destination was Letre.
Immediately after the bus passed by Malabon Zoo, he stood up, approached the victim and shot him.
The police said they were still trying to determine the motive for the shooting.
