2 dead as speeding SUV hits motorcycle, tricycle

COTABATO CITY–A soldier and another motorist were killed after a wayward sports utility vehicle (SUV) hit their motorcycles from behind at a village in Sultan Mastura town, Maguindanao province on Friday (Aug 9) yet.

Killed were Sgt. Arlan Rosete of Parang, Maguindanao, and Daud Dasnan, driver of a tricycle and resident of Sultan Mastura town.

MSgt Amerhan Isnain, Sultan Mastura police traffic investigator, said the SUV, driven by Menandang Sendad of Cotabato City, was speeding when it hit the tricycle and the motorcycle driven by Rosete past 4 p.m.

Isnain said Sendad, 40, sought forgiveness from the victims’ families saying “everything was an accident and not intentional.”

Isnain added that Sendad also offered to settle the matter amicably with the victims’ families.

He is now detained at the Sultan Mastura police detention facility. /tsb
