3 fishermen rescued after being adrift off Surigao del Norte for 5 days

MANILA, Philippines — Three fishermen that were adrift at sea off Sta. Monica, Surigao del Norte for five days have been rescued by the Butuan Police.

The three fishermen, identified as Ador Vasquez, 49; Cliford Mante, 27; and Jerry Boiser, 25, were rescued Friday afternoon by Butuan Police and local “bantay dagat” members.

The three fishermen were reported missing last Aug. 4 after leaving Socorro town for sea aboard their motor banca.

“Their motor banca capsized when large waves crashed into them upon reaching the sea waters of Siargao Islands,” Police Regional Office (PRO) 13 Director Brig. Gen. Gilberto Cruz said.

“Although they were floating for five days without food and water, the fishermen managed to survive,” he added.

The three fishermen were first brought to the Sta. Monica Municipal Police Station and are now being readied for their return to the their respective families.   /muf
