MANILA, Philippines – A big catfish or “hito” weighing ten kilos is the fourth giant fish caught by fishermen in Pasig River.
In a statement from Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) on Friday, the 10 to 12-kilo catfish was caught by fisherfolk in Barangay Guadalupe on Thursday. PRRC said a catfish normally weighs around a kilogram.
In July, Michael Crudo, who conducts recreational fishing in Pasig River, bagged two Dory fishes which weighed 11 and 17 kilos.
A PRRC personnel caught a three-kilo tilapia from the Estero de San Miguel in Manila on July 11. The fish was said to have a length of 20.5 inches.
PRRC, however, emphasized that they are studying the giant fishes caught in the Pasig River as the fishes could not be safe for human consumption./ac
