MANILA, Philippines — During the first week of the two-month voter registration period, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has already received more than 100,000 applications.
In a statement on Friday, the Comelec said it received a total of 100,399 applications nationwide since it opened the voter registration on August 1.

The voter registration were opened ahead of the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections scheduled on May 11, 2020.
Of the number of registrants, 92,292 applications came from regular voters, or those who are 18 years old and above, while 8,107 were received from SK registrants with ages 15 to 17 years old, Comelec said.
It added that Calabarzon had the highest turnout for regular voters with 19,651, while Visayas received the most number of SK registrants at 1,043.
Meanwhile, in National Capital Region (NCR), 8,430 applicants were recorded.
Comelec noted that there were more female applicants with 55,975 compared to the number of male applications, which is at 44,424, the Comelec also pointed out.
The voter registration will run until September 30, 2019, the Comelec said. Applications will be accepted from Mondays to Saturdays, including holidays, it added. /jpv
