MANILA, Philippines – Several local government units and educational institutions have opted to suspend classes for Friday, August 9, amid continuous rain and impending floods.
These areas have declared no classes for Friday:
National Capital Region:
Makati City — afternoon classes, all levels, both public and private
Pateros – afternoon and evening classes, both public and private
Taguig City – all levels, both public and private
Quezon City — all levels, both public and private
Valenzuela City — all levels, both public and private
Caloocan City — all levels, both public and private
Pasig City — all levels, both public and private
Manila City — all levels, both public and private
Malabon City — all levels, both public and private
Mandaluyong — all levels, both public and private

In its severe weather bulletin, the weather bureau said moderate to heavy rain is expected over the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, the Babuyan Group of Islands, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro and northern portions of Palawan (including Calamian Islands).
Light to moderate with intermittent heavy monsoon rains are also expected to prevail over Metro Manila, Western Visayas, and the rest of CALABARZON, Central Luzon, and MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan)
Gusty conditions is expected continue over most of Luzon and Visayas due to the enhanced southwest monsoon, Pagasa said. /muf
