MANILA, Philippines – Several local government units and educational institutions have opted to suspend classes for Friday, August 9, amid continuous rain and impending floods.

These areas have declared no classes for Friday:

National Capital Region:

Makati City — afternoon classes, all levels, both public and private

Pateros – afternoon and evening classes, both public and private

Taguig City – all levels, both public and private

Quezon City — all levels, both public and private

Valenzuela City — all levels, both public and private

Caloocan City —  all levels, both public and private

Pasig City — all levels, both public and private

Manila City — all levels, both public and private

Malabon City — all levels, both public and private

Mandaluyong —  all levels, both public and private

Marikina City —  all levels, both public and private

Navotas City —  all levels, both public and private

Parañaque City — all levels, both public and private

Pasay City — all levels, both public and private

San Juan City — all levels, both public and private

Muntinlupa City — all levels, both public and private

Las Piñas City— all levels, both public and private

Central Luzon:

Calumpit, Bulacan – all levels, both public and private

Pulilan, Bulacan — afternoon classes, all levels, both public and private

Bataan — all levels, both public and private

Botolan, Zambales — all levels, both public and private

Candelaria, Zambales — all levels, both public and private

Iba, Zambales — all levels, both public and private

Mansiloc, Zambales — all levels, both public and private

Cordillera Administrative Region:

Baguio City – pre-school to elementary, both public and private

La Trinidad – pre-school to elementary, both public and private

Benguet – pre-school

Ilocos Region:

Urbiztondo, Pangasinan — pre-school to high school, both public and private

Mapandan, Pangasinan — all levels, both public and private

Infanta, Pangasinan — all levels, both public and private

Mangaldan, Pangasinan — day care until high school, both public and private

Mangatarem, Pangasinan – pre-school to senior high school, both public and private

Abra — all levels, both public and private

Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon)

Cavite province — all levels, both public and private

Rizal province — afternoon classes, all levels, both  public and private

Western Visayas:

Iloilo City – pre-school to senior high school, both public and private

In its severe weather bulletin, the weather bureau said moderate to heavy rain is expected over the Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Batanes, the Babuyan Group of Islands, Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro and northern portions of Palawan (including Calamian Islands).

Light to moderate with intermittent heavy monsoon rains are also expected to prevail over Metro Manila, Western Visayas, and the rest of CALABARZON, Central Luzon, and MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan)

Gusty conditions is expected continue over most of Luzon and Visayas due to the enhanced southwest monsoon, Pagasa said. /muf
