MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte has declared the fourth week of November every year as National Science and Technology Week.
Duterte signed Proclamation No. 780 on August 2, amending Proclamation No. 169 issued in 1993, which declared the third week of July every year as National Science and Technology Week.
The President said he moved the date “to ensure the maximum participation of school, students, stakeholders and the public during the week-long celebration, considering the change in the academic calendar of most universities, schools and educational institutions.”
He said the celebration “provides an opportunity to give national and regional attention to the contributions of science and technology to national development.
He added that it would also be an opportunity “to recognize and appreciate outstanding accomplishments and personalities in the field of science and technology.”
He then urged government agencies and the private sector to support the Department of Science and Technology “to ensure the successful observance of the Science and Technology Week.” /gsg
