MANILA, Philippines — A man described by the police as paranoid and a drug dependent has confessed to the killing of a woman whose body was thrown into a fish pond in Valenzuela City.
Authorities said they were looking at jealousy as a possible motive in the murder of Rosalie Sagal. The 43-year-old victim was discovered in a pond on Concepcion Street on Aug. 2, near the house of the suspect, Geofredo Perdigon.
The 47-year-old Perdigon was Sagal’s childhood sweetheart. He was arrested on Aug. 5 at a private drug rehabilitation center in Pampanga province.
Police Cpl. Ryan Alburo said that the victim’s body, which bore several stab wounds, was wrapped in a blanket.
Perdigon, in the presence of his lawyer, confessed to killing Sagal on July 20.
The suspect was reportedly “a drug-dependent” and “paranoid,” according to Maj. Lakan Amor Cerillo, chief of the Valenzuela City Police Station Investigation Division Management Branch.
Alburo said the suspect’s family was surprised when he sought their help for his drug problem on July 22. He was admitted to the rehab center on July 26.
