DAVAO CITY – Some 112 families or 341 persons from the coastal barangays here were evacuated to safer, higher ground on Sunday due to the giant waves and high tide.
Jefry Tupas of the Davao City Information Office, said the City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office enforced the preemptive evacuation along the coastlines of Barangay 22-C and 23-C here to secure residents from the rising coastal water level.
Residents of the affected coastal villages took temporary refuge in a barangay gymnasium and barangay halls, chapel and other buildings.
Other affected barangay are 21-C, Bago Aplaya, Bucana, Daliao, Duterte and Matina Aplaya.
Tupas said the city government is extending due assistance to affected families. /gsg
