2 men trapped in quarry accident in Cebu; rescue ongoing

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Two persons were trapped when a cave-in occurred at a quarry in Barangay (village) Calagasan, Argao town Thursday, authorities said.

The two workers, identified as Nelson Pantujan and Nitoy Alforque, were reportedly gathering rocks at the quarry in Sitio Tungko at around 2:20 p.m. when the accident occurred.

According to initial reports, the two are alive and a rescue operation is ongoing.

Argao Mayor Edcel Galeos had sent heavy equipment to the site, which is around 30 kilometers from Poblacion proper, to help in the rescue efforts, said traffic enforcer Filomino Sarra Jr. of the Argao’s Task Force Enforcement Group.
