COTABATO CITY –– Some 225 former combatants of the Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces (BIAF), the armed wing of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), begin Thursday, August 1, a month-long course on peacekeeping.
Sec. Carlito Galvez, Jr., Presidential Adviser on Peace, Reconciliation, and Unity, said the course includes basic military and peace-building training that would prepare the participants for peacekeeping roles in the new Bangsamoro region.
The trainees would become the first batch of BIAF fighters who would compose the Joint Peace and Security Team once they hurdle the training, Galvez added.
The month-long training is held at Camp Lucero in Carmen, Cotabato headquarters of the 602nd Infantry Brigade.
“This training is the gateway for former combatants to serve and join the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Philippine National Police in maintaining peace and order in the Bangsamoro,” Galvez said.
