MANILA, Philippines — The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) said it will conduct a weekly monitoring of the local government units tasked to clear public roads of obstructions, including illegal vendors.
“Weekly kasi monitoring especially sa Metro Manila. After 60 days, titingnan natin kung sinunod nila yung direktiba kasi merong road networks inventory so makikita natin kung san may bara sa day one pa lamang,” DILG Undersecretary Epimaco Densing III told Radyo Inqurier on Tuesday.
Densing was referring to President Rodrigo Duterte’s order to suspend mayors and governors who would not abide by the directore to reclaim public roads from illegal vendors and other obstructions.

Densing said mayors and governors may face suspension if they are found guilty of failure to clear roads of obstructions in their localities.
“Kapag napatunayan natin na hindi naman talaga nagtrabaho [ang mayor] utos lang nang utos [at] walang nagawa at base sa imbestigasyon makita natin na talagang meron siyang gross negligence dito… magrerecomyenda kami na sila ay suspenduhin,” Densing said.
The DILG gave local chief executives 60 days to remove illegal structures, vehicles and other illegal structure along public roads. /jpv
