2 dead after ambulance crashes into tree in Cam Sur

LEGAZPI CITY — Two health care professionals died Sunday morning after the ambulance they were on smashed into a tree while transporting a pregnant woman to Naga City from Ocampo town in Camarines Sur province.

Midwife Rhodara Labanon and staff nurse Janice Eva were dead on the spot, while three others, including the patient Hanela Mendoza, were severely injured when the ambulance hit a tree by the side of the road at Ayugan village at 6:20 a.m.

Maj. Maria Louisa Calubaquib said that ambulance driver Jose dela Rama lost control of the steering wheel.

Dela Rama and the two others who were injured were taken to the Bicol Medical Center in Naga City for treatment. /je
