Truck driver sued for transporting yakan lumber in Ecija

CABANATUAN CITY – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) filed charges against  a 35-year-old truck driver for illegally transporting over 3,200 board feet of hardwood yakal on Friday (July 26).

Marvin Ortega was apprehended while driving a truck carrying P194,000-worth of yakal lumber at the village of Pulong Matong in General Tinio town around 4:30 a.m. Pedro Roque, chief of the NBI Cabanatuan District Office, said Ortega had no permit to transport the lumber from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.

Ortega was charged with violating forestry laws at the Nueva Ecija Prosecutor’s Office. The NBI is tracking down the source of the contraband. ARMAND GALANG /tsb
