MANILA, Philippines—Five provinces in Central Luzon are the most vulnerable to extreme flood cases, said an official from the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources.
“Among the 80 provinces, we have top 10 provinces which are vulnerable to this kind of natural disasters. Five of these provinces are in Central Luzon,” said Leo Jasanero, director of the Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, in an interview Tuesday with program anchors Susan K, Den Macaranas and Dylan Halili of “Good Morning Inquirer”on Radyo Inquirer 990AM.
The five Central Luzon provinces are Pangasinan, Pampanga, Tarlac, Bulacan and Nueva Ecija.
The other five provinces are Ilocos Norte, Maguindanao, North Cotabato, Oriental Mindoro and Metro Manila.
In the same interview, he explained that what happened in the cities of Iligan and Cagayan de Oro is part of a 100-year climatic pattern.
He also pointed out the massive effects of illegal logging and soil erosion that are both rampant in the said cities.
