MANILA, Philippines–The number of Filipinos who claimed that their lives improved has dwindled based on the latest survey released by the Social Weather Station (SWS) on Thursday.
The percent of adult Filipinos who said their lives improved in the last 12 months went down to 36 percent, from a survey conducted from June 22 to 26, 2019, compared with the 38 percent released in March 2019.
Meanwhile, the percentage of Filipinos who said their lives worsened in the last 12 months slightly increased from 21 percent in March 2019, to 22 percent in June 2019.
The SWS said this resulted in a net gainers score of +13 in the second quarter of the year, four points lower than the +17 net gainers score in the first quarter of the year.

Despite this, the net gainers score remains to be “very high” as per SWS.
The SWS said that net gainers score fell in Metro Manila, Balance Luzon, and Mindanao but increased in Visayas.
The net gainers score also fell among class A, B, C, D, and E.
Less Filipinos expect quality of life to improve in the next 12 months
Likewise, only 46 percent of Filipinos also expect their lives to improve in the next 12 months, a four-point drop from the 50 percent record in the first quarter of the year.
The percentage of Filipinos who expect their lives would worsen, meanwhile, remained steady at four percent in the second quarter of the year, which resulted in a net personal optimists score of +42 which the SWS classifies as “excellent,” similar to the first quarter survey.
While the net personal optimists remained “excellent,” the +42 net personal optimists score in the second quarter is five points lower than the +47 net personal optimists score in the first quarter.
Less Filipinos optimistic about Philippine economy
Less Filipinos are also “optimistic” about the Philippine economy, with 42 percent of adult Filipinos saying that the economy would improve in the next 12 months, lower than the 45 percent survey result in the first quarter of the year.
Meanwhile, 10 percent said they are “pessimistic” with the Philippine economy improving in the next year, which gave a net economic optimism score of +33 which is classified as “excellent.”
While the net economic optimism score remained “excellent,” similar to the first quarter of the year, the net economic optimism score for the second quarter of the year is two points lower than the +35 score in the first quarter. /jpv
